Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
- Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Over 300 years ago the first Brethren came together to study the Scriptures and discern what it meant to be a follower of Christ. In all the years since, studying the Bible, exploring God’s Word, and discerning the Scriptures have been important to Brethren. The Church of the Brethren has done this in many ways: Bible study at home, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, seminars, small groups, retreats, etc. The Virlina District Nurture Commission has appointed a Christian Education Task Team to support, encourage, and assist congregations in continuing to study, explore and discern the Scriptures. Christian education is vitally important to the health and growth of every member and every congregation.
Our mission: The newly formed Virlina District Christian Education Task Team is seeking your help for an important information-gathering endeavor. God is leading us to review the current Christian education practices and resources used by the wider Virlina district congregations. We will be examining topics, themes, classroom structures, and activities, as well as specific questions focused on desires, expectations, and opportunities for growth in the area of education and discipleship. We believe this information, which we will be collecting over several months and by many different means, will allow us to gain better insight into what types of Christian education themes, delivery methods, and sources are utilized and valued in our district and how the District can best support the ministries and missions of our congregations.
Our request: Please find the enclosed survey compiled by the members of the committee. We are requesting your help in distributing this survey within your congregation for completion by as many persons as possible. No later than October 30th, 2015 please return your completed surveys to the Virlina District Resource Center at 3402 Plantation Road, NE, Roanoke, VA 24012. Individuals may also send their completed survey separately. Should you have any questions, please reach out to Tara Shepherd at (540) 598-9002 or at firstname.lastname@example.org;.
Our prayer: Christ be with us, be after us, be before us, and be at our right and left hands. May everything we do be for Christ. - Traditional Irish Blessing
Thank you for your assistance in this important task God has given us.
