~This year's theme~
Based on Matthew 6: 9-10, this year's theme, chosen by Moderator Cathy Huffman, is "Radical Hope: Glimpses of the Kingdom." The 2020 District Conference Artwork was created by Lauren Kelley, an eighth grader at The Gereau Center for Applied Technology in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13
Ministers & Spouses Dinner: Due to Pandemic The Annual Dinner for Ministers and Spouses has been cancelled.
Hymn Singing and Worship video will be posted on Friday, November 13 and kept on the website through the end of the year. Watch and enjoy at your convenience.
Speakers: Ted Turner, Topeco; David Radcliff, Blue Ridge; Emily Laprade VanPelt, Antioch; Adam Stultz, Summerdean; and John Thompson, Peters Creek. Music will be provided by a variety of bands and soloists. Each speaker will share what God's Kingdom looks like a a glimpse!
Children: All children of Virlina are invited to send in a drawing, craft, or artwork of their version of the 2020 theme. We will post the creations on the District Conference video. Please put name, age, and congregation on the art so that we will know where these glimpses of the kingdom come from!
Youth: Bridgewater College's IYC leadership has provided a video Bible study for youth to watch whenever they like!
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14
Song and Worship: Hear a brief recorded message from Annual Conference moderator Paul Mundey.
Business Sessions: The ballot nominees will be read aloud, then the newly elected District Board names, voted on by mail-in ballots, will be announced. Moderator Cathy Huffman and Moderator-Elect Greg Fleshman will announce the new board names, affirm the 2021 ballot, left unchanged from 2020, and pass the leadership gavel from one to the other. We will be introduced to the 2021 theme of District Conference and close in prayer. This will be recorded and may be viewed through the end of the year.

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR DELEGATES
Registration Form for Delegates 2020.Virlina District Registration for delegates closes on September 21. Each congregation was mailed a preregistration packet in August. Delegates must preregister with $25.00 fee to receive a report booklet and a mail-in ballot.
CONFERENCE BOOKLET
Booklets and ballots will be mailed to pastors and congregations in October. Pastors or contact persons are asked to distribute the booklets to the delegates. The 2019 District Conference Minutes will be published in the 2020 District Conference Booklet. We will order books this year based on how many delegates register by the deadline. Booklets may be purchased by non-delgates for $5.00 each. Parts of the booklet will also be available on here once those pages are finalized. The District Office has a few remaining conference booklets if you would like to request one.
~Age Group Activities~
ATTENTION YOUTH GROUPS! Bridgewater College's IYC is inviting you to a live ZOOM meeting on Sunday, November 15, at 7:30. Please check the Virlina Young Facebook page for account numbers and details on how to join in. Watch the IYC videos on this website first, then be prepared to have a discussion about each theme touched you! Make new friends on ZOOM!!!!

~Disaster Response Project~
Congregations are invited to make Emergency Clean Up Buckets. Please follow these instructions only. No exceptions or additions are allowed because of shipping regulations. We are still collecting this offering project at the District Resource Center.
EMERGENCY CLEAN UP BUCKETS (Click here for shopping list.)
- One five-gallon bucket with reseable lid (If bucket has been used, clean well but do not use if it has held chemcals of any kind.)
- Four scouring pads
- Seven sponges, including one large
- One scrub brush
- Eighteen reusable, lightweight dry cleaning towels (e.g. Handi wipes)
- One 50 oz. or two 25 oz. bottle(s) of liquid laundry detergent
- One 16-28 oz. bottle of liquid disinfectant dish soap
- One 12-16 oz. botle of household cleaner that can be mixed with water (no spray bottles)
- One package of 48-50 clothespins
- Clothesline, two 50 ft. or one 100 ft.
- Five dust masks
- Two pairs heavy-duty waterproof dishwashing gloves (latex-free, non-surgical)
- One pair work gloves, cotton with leather palm or all leather
- 24-28 heavy duty or contractor type 30-45 gallon trash bags on a roll and removed from carton or box
- One 6-9 oz. bottle of non-aerosol insect repellent
All items must be new. All liquid items must be capped and tightened. Place all items into the bucket, making sure they are packed securely to avoid damage during shipment. Snap the lid on tight and seal with packing tape.
Each bucket is valued at: $75.00
Processing fee: $3.00 per bucket
Financial contributions can also be donated to Brethren Disaster Ministries for trips and situations that routinely pop up. Congregations or individuals wishing to donate money can send checks made payable to the Virlina District (“BDM” in the memo line) and we will send one check to them after District Conference.
